Connection Instructions
Windows PC
- With your computer turned off--Using your Ethernet cable, hook your computer into the data jack in your room (located in the same box with your telephone and cable jacks). NOTES: All residence halls have two data connections in each room EXCEPT in Brockton. QUICK FIX: Don't know which port is data and which is voice (phone)? Plug your phone into the jacks first and see if the phone works. If the phone works, it's voice. If it doesn't, it's data.
- Turn on your computer
- To start the installation/connection process, open your Internet browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Mozilla) and, if not redirected to a login page in 2 minutes, try to visit a website such as Google. This should cause your browser to be redirected to another page. Click "Yes" when prompted until you reach the login screen.
- You should enter your EKU email USERNAME and PASSWORD to download the Cisco Clean Access client. Save on your computer. (IF you have a Macintosh computer or another non-Microsoft based operating system, you'll just need to login here weekly and you'll be online.)
- Once you install the Cisco Clean Access client a login box should automatically popup when it detects your network connection. If it doesn't you should try these things: (1) Turn off your computer. Is the Ethernet cable plugged into both your Ethernet card/adapter and the data jack in your room securely. Restart. (2) Check to be sure your Ethernet adapter is enabled. (3) Call our office at 2-3050 if the first two things don't work.
- Your login to the Cisco Clean Access client is also your EKU e-mail USERNAME and PASSWORD.
- Once you're logged in you have to satify security policies in order to connect to the residential network.
- If at any stage you experince a problem with these procedures do not hesitate to contact the ResNet office!
• First you will need to download EKU's version of Symantec Antivirus. (1) Download the file. (2) Unplug from the network. (3) Remove all installed antivirus programs/suites in the "Control Panel" "Add/Remove Programs." This should include firewalls, antivirus software, and security centers that are bundles. For example, McAfee suite has three pieces of software to remove: Antivirus, Firewall, and Security Center. Remove all, restarting after each! (4) Install EKU's Symantec. (5) Plug back into the network. (6) Restart your computer.
• If you need any Microsoft Updates, including service packs, you will need to download those and install them, as well. Please remember that Microsoft releases updates every 2-4 weeks so you will be doing this all year long. NOTE: You must use Internet Explorer to obtain Windows updates from this site.
